LONDON CHALLENGE

A unique fund raising opportunity for local young people to work together

23 July to 6 August 2005

What is London Challenge?
London Challenge is a canal journey from Calf Heath near Cannock to London and return to Walsall on two 70 foot narrowboats in two weeks. 332 miles and 360 locks! Hard work and some challenge! From across the borough of Walsall 16 young people each week aged from 14 to 19 will be actively involved in London Challenge.

How will young people be actively involved in London Challenge?

Who is organising London Challenge?
London Challenge is being organised and staffed by representatives of the H F Truman Narrowboat Committee, experienced youth workers, experienced boaters and James Murray who is a 16 year old student from Willenhall Sports College.

How is money being raised?
Local companies are being asked to sponsor London Challenge. Young people will be sponsored for working locks and collect money en-route. The H F Truman Narrowboat Committee are providing the boats at no cost.

Who will benefit?
Cancer Research and the H F Truman Narrowboat Trust.

Publicity & Promotion
Local and National newspapers and TV will be asked to cover the event. Both boats will have large signs with LONDON CHALLENGE on and all sponsor’s names. This will positively promote Community Boating for young people. The Local Network Fund is supporting this event.
